If you have read my last post about the old outhouse, your would probably be surprise to see this thing in one piece. Here it is sitting in it’s new place with a new roof. The roof is actually supplies left over from when we re-roofed the small cabin. Every scrap of material gets used … Read more

When do you need think about starting you vegetable garden seeds indoors to be sure they are ready in time for garden planting?

When the snow fell….the plan was to skid the outhouse over to a new location. There was a tree hanging over the outhouse not wanting to fall it on the outhouse and destroy it, we were waiting for the snow, that way it could be skidded across the snow quite easily and onto the new hole that Scott had dug.

Growing Garlic in Raised BedsLast year I grew my garlic in raised beds and they were the best garlic I have every grown. Not that could be because the raised beds saved them.
Difference between Bobcat and Lynx
I had never seen either so was not sure which one it was. My husband had and informed me it was a lynx.

If you’ve ever walked through a grove of birch trees, you may have come across a strange, dark, burnt-looking growth on the trunk. That’s Chaga mushroom (Inonotus obliquus), a wild medicinal fungus prized for its health benefits. On our off-grid property, we’re fortunate to have birch trees where we harvest Chaga responsibly.
Chaga is a slow-growing fungus that thrives mainly on birch trees in cold climates. It appears as a hard, cracked, black mass on the outside, resembling burnt charcoal, while the inside is a vibrant rusty orange to yellowish-brown.
Size: Can grow 10–15 inches in diameter.
Growth rate: Takes 3–10 years to reach harvest size.
Best growth: On healthy birch trees around 40 years old.
