Insect Repellent Clothing
The mosquitoes are so bad out on our off grid property this year that I had to source something better than spray this year.

I was surprised and somewhat skeptical when I hear about mosquito repellent clothing but I decided I needed to give it a try because really what did I have to lose? Either it’s going to work and I’ll be thrilled or it won’t and I’ll have a new shirt or pants.
Men’s Insect Repellent Pants
So I did some searching and bought a long sleeve shirt and a pair of pants. When I bought them I was just concerned about the mosquito repellent abilities of this clothing, but then also discovered that this clothing is also rated as tick repellent clothing, what a bonus that is as we do often do some hiking in the bush and ticks are known to be in our area as well.
The clothing I got is the Insect Shield Clothing which keeps the mosquito’s away. There is also available Insect Proof Clothing which won’t let them thru to bite. This type of clothing does not keep them away from you. See below for each type.
Insect Shield Clothing
Insect Shield Clothing binds a permethrin formula to the fabric fibers – this makes an effective and odorless insect protection that is expected to last the lifetime of the clothing.
What is Permethrin
It is a product used in lice shampoos for children, flea dips for dogs and various other products, it has been a registered product with the US Environmental Protection Agency since 1977 and has an excellent safety record.
I am allergic to all kinds of things, including laundry soap and have been able to wear these shirts and pants without any irritation. So happy to have them!
Permethrin has been tested and proven to work exceptionally well in clothing including mosquito repellent shirts. It is a great mosquito clothing repellent.

Which insects does Insect Shield repel?
The EPA requires extensive effectiveness data to prove a products effectiveness before being able to label as an insect repellent and Insect Shield® Repellent Apparel was proven and has been registered to repel mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers, and midges (no-see-ums). Many species and varieties of these insects were tested. Insect Shield has proven to have one of the best insect repellent clothing lines.

How long will the effectiveness last on the garments? It is expected to last the life of the garment which is determined to be approximately 70 washes.

I’m so glad I found your website today, as soon as Spring is back at home (Canada) I know I’m getting some bad times dealing with tons of mosquito’s bites, maybe my skin or don’t know what, but I’m the one that gets all the mosquito’s bites at home.
And lately it’s getting bad here with ticks, I don’t like to go out for a hike as I know there are so many around!
It’s good to know that now we can buy some cloths designed and made to protect us from mosquito and ticks, and when I read your article, wow women’s cloths are really good designed, who would think they are made as mosquito and ticks protection!

Loved this post as I live in the countryside of Portugal and we get so many mosquitoes during the summer season and i believe that these clothes will come in handy very soon! I hate the smell of repellent sprays so if these work it’ll be a great replacement and hopefully save me from being eaten alive!
I’ve never tried insect repellent clothing before but no harm in giving it a shot.

This was the first year I tried this clothing and I am pleasantly surprised at how well they work. The mosquito’s really seem to like me so it was a good test out at our off grid place.
